Rangers Triumphant At Dundee United.

Rangers put four past Dundee Utd last night to win 4-0 in a game that ended with Dundee Utd having just eight players on the park.

Referee Willie Collum gave Rangers 3 penalties and produced a red card for the offending player each time.

Both sides were playing open, attacking football without threatening either goalkeeper until Naismith had the ball in the United net after 16 minutes although he was judged to have controlled the ball with his arm.

A powerful drive from Lafferty was saved by Pernis but he knocked it straight into Naismith's path who was then fouled from behind by Kovacevic and the first penalty was awarded.

Regular penalty taker Steven Whittaker calmly finished sending the keeper the wrong way.

The visitors cranked up the pressure on the 10 men and nearly scored again as Jelavic was unable to connect to a miss hit shot from Naismith.

Lafferty managed to connection from a Diouf cross but Pernis turned the ball over the crossbar.

Into the second half the Gers were determined to make the most of a man advantage but Jelavic unmarked 12 yards headed well over and minutes later sliced wide after controlling the ball well on his chest from even closer range.

He appeared to be going through on goal after picking up the ball from a Utd mistake and was then brought down from Dillon in a tackle that appeared to be just outside the box however a  penalty was given and Dillon received a red card.Steven Whittaker again stepped up and finished for his second of the game.

Jelavic finally got his reward after Steven Davis fired a shot at Pernis who managed to keep it out but was not so lucky when th Croatian pounced and knocked the ball in.

United were down to eight men when Gomis nudged Diouf in the six-yard box after 78 minutes, but Whittaker was unable to convert this one and missed his chance to get a hat-trick of penalties.

The game was not dead as Kyle Lafferty managed to get on the score sheet late on as his shot from the edge of the box appeared to take Pernis by suprise and crept in.

Rangers tried to add a fifth but it never came and they ran out 4-0 winners to put pressure on Celtic again who play Kilmarnock tonight.
